Today at approximately 1:45 p.m. someone called the Marble Falls Police Department (PD) and reported the possibility of a "suspicious" backpack at Marble Falls High School (MFHS). PD dispatched to MFHS and upon arrival told high school administration to implement shelter in place protocols. PD then started to "sweep" the building one class at a time. At approximately 3:30 p.m. the shelter was lifted and we resumed normal operations.
During the course of the building "sweep" a teacher reported a student project that could have caused concern; however, this project did not match the description of the "backpack" provided to PD . It is also worth noting today's event is similar to events that have recently occurred in high schools across the state.
I want to extend my appreciation to the faculty and staff at MFHS, our understanding parents, the exceptionally professional first responders, and most especially our beyond cooperative students.
