Local Law Enforcer Reaches Out to Colleagues Across the State in Support of Reading at Colt Elementary School

Sergeant Garrett Scallorn of the Johnson City Police Department wanted to assist his wife’s first grade class by providing “read-aloud” books for the students. Numerous books were requested to assist the class, so Officer Scallorn invited his law enforcement colleagues across the State help with the book-buying effort. The result was that all 20 books were purchased by officers and donated to Kim Scallorn’s class. Having these books available for “read-aloud” activities will have a significant impact on learning.  Mrs. Scallorn said, “these books will allow kids to see the use of literary devices, the structure of a story, and the vocabulary they need to be successful readers”.

The actions of these officers serve as one more instance in an ongoing list of examples demonstrating that our community supports the local public schools and how people who serve in the public sector daily express a heart of love and compassion.  Marble Falls ISD expresses a heart of thanks and gratitude to Sergeant Scallorn and all of those law enforcement personnel who provided books for the first-graders at Colt Elementary School.
