Joshua Miller of Marble Falls High School is recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar for his performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). Of the 1.5 million entrants, National Merit Commended students fall within approximately the top 50,000 top scores. We are so proud of Joshua’s dedication to his studies throughout his school career.

The Marble Falls High School Boys Cross Country Team was recognized as state qualifiers and “the best cross country team to ever walk these hallways,” according to Coach James Schrader. The young team has an average age of 15 years old. After receiving first place at the district meet, the team then rose to the podium as second-place finishers at the regional meet, making history for Marble Falls ISD.

Team members include Tori Thompson, Blake Cockrell, Nick Dahl, Tyler Hamblin, Hunter Holder, Marco Almazan, and Ezekiel Atkinson.

We look forward to seeing the great achievements these students will continue in their running careers.

Gwen Mattox and Kayden Maze from Colt Elementary received the Superintendent’s award this month. The Superintendent’s Award is given to two students at each campus once throughout the school year who exemplify what it means to be a Mustang through dedication to studies, participation in extracurriculars, citizenship and overall enthusiasm for learning.

Colt Principal Melissa Fletcher shared, “Gwen Mattox exemplifies respect, hard work and grace. She helps make Colt a great place to be. She is empathetic and sees the light in all. Her creative writing inspires others. She is a great decision maker. She is creative and always find a way to push through. She is inspiring. “

Ms. Fletcher then presented, “Kayden Maze is a leader among his classmates. Kayden inspires others to be their best as he always leads by example. He possesses grit and an inspiring attitude. He is a good friend and a good student. He always makes people laugh and inspires others to work hard. “

“Each month, I am impressed by the leadership our young MFISD students encompass.  Gwen and Kayden are excellent representatives of our district, and I am honored to present these Superintendent’s awards to them tonight,” said Dr. Chris Allen, Superintendent. 

Counselor at Colt Elementary, Patricia McAlpin, received the Going the Extra Mile Award for routinely going above and beyond her job duties and demonstrating an unyielding commitment to students and fellow teachers. Ms. McAlpin began working for MFISD as a counselor in 2004, and has held roles as teacher and counselor across multiple campuses in the District. Principal Melissa Fletcher describes her as “simply the Sun” at Colt. Ms. McAlpin is also described as observant, practical, genuine, devoted, real, dependable, loyal, pragmatic, selfless, joyful, an advocate, safe, and welcoming by students and staff at Colt Elementary.

Nurse Celena Crawford was recognized by Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Gasaway, for administering life-saving rescue breaths to another staff member at Marble Falls High School only a few weeks ago. Nurse Crawford is cherished by students and staff alike. “She has just been a calm force at the high school- one of the best nurses; I feel so blessed for my own child to have her as his nurse, and I know you bless all of our kids,” said Dr. Gasaway.
