Marble Falls ISD School Board Approves Attendance Zone Change Recommendations

On August 22, the Marble Falls Board of Trustees approved the Attendance Zone boundary change recommendations prepared by a committee comprised of parents, staff and community members.

Beginning in April 2022, a series of meetings were held to review current elementary boundaries in order to address future growth and facility planning. During these discussions, it was determined by the committee that changes should be made based on factors including building capacities, demographic studies, attendance trends, personnel impact for special programs, and the projected future growth of Marble Falls ISD.

“It was important for us as a committee to balance enrollments across the district while utilizing natural boundaries as much as possible and keeping neighborhoods intact. We listened to perspectives from parents and community members from the four elementary schools in the District who all value demographic diversity and embraced this philosophy while evaluating attendance zone options,” said Dr. Jeff Gasaway, Deputy Superintendent and  committee member.

In addition to these committee meetings, a public informational meeting was held at the high school in June, and a parent survey was sent to all parents in order to gather input. Ultimately, the recommended zones have been approved for implementation for the 2023-2024 school year.

Some exceptions to the attendance zones have been considered. Incoming fifth graders (2023-2024) and siblings will have the “grandfather” option to stay at their original campus for the 2023-2024 school year. In newly constructed developments (i.e. Thunder Rock, Gregg Ranch), any new houses built prior to the 2023-2024 school year will attend the approved attendance zones at time of construction completion, rather than waiting until the next school year. As always, District transfer applications will be available in the Spring for consideration.

Gasaway concluded “The committee put in many hours of thought and discussion and utilized as much data as possible to make an informed and responsible decision for the future of Marble Falls ISD.”
