On August 1st, the UIL released attendance guidelines for sporting events for the 2020-2021 school year. The mandate requires that school events can only hold 50% of their capacity. In order to comply with this rule, seating and attendance will be much different for all MFISD sporting events this season.
In addition to seating capacity restrictions and to continue to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, anyone attending a UIL event must be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to event entry. Face coverings (masks) must be worn by everyone in attendance and all social distancing guidelines will apply. Mustang Stadium seating will be marked off in a way that will help promote social distancing.
Due to the restrictions in place, we will not be offering season tickets for the 2020 football season. All seats will be general admission. Current season ticket holders will have their tickets and seats guaranteed for the 2021 school year.
“Health and safety are the most important things we are dealing with. The new restrictions are challenging but we need to do everything possible to keep our kids and our community safe,” said Athletic Director Rick Hoover. Details on how the general admission tickets will be sold and distributed will be out soon.
The UIL has issued the same restrictions for gymnasiums. MFISD will be releasing information containing a similar plan for volleyball season and other indoor sports in the upcoming days.
