BA - English Professional Certification - English Language Arts & Reading - 8th through 12th

Mrs. Shannon Meyer

I feel very blessed and priveledged to be part of the educational team at MFHS!  Our campus strives every day to encourage and inspire every student to reach their fullest potential!  As an ELAR teacher, I specifically focus on helping students continue to develop and strengthen their reading comprehension and analysis skills through a wide range of reading materials selected from a wide variety of genres and authors.  Similarly, both written and oral communication skills are strengthened through multiple varieties of writing activities, projects, and presentations.

I teach both ELA II Honors (formerly P-AP) and on-level ELA II.  Specific content info follows:

ELA II Honors:

The tenth grade Honors (Pre-AP) English class is designed to prepare students for the demands of the eleventh and twelfth grade college-level Advanced Placement courses. The Advanced Placement Program® Course Description and Teacher’s Guide published by The College Board describes a suitable candidate for Advanced Placement English as follows:

“Academically talented, imaginative students who read with finesse and write with clarity and style, who are curious and responsive to academic risk-taking, and who are not deterred by hard work.”

This is a rigorous course that often requires students to spend additional time outside of the school day on both whole-class reading selections, as well as self-selected texts.  Students enrolled in ELA II Honors must also complete the Summer Reading Project linked below:
