I ask my students to please enter with an open mind and be ready to work! In the arts, learning can not occur if the work is not done. Although creativity and inspiration are important, I find the words of famous painter Chuck Close to be especially inspiring when it comes to being successful in this class:
“Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lighting to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself.” -Chuck Close
