Marble Falls High School Librarian, Joyce Smith, is retiring at the end of December after 45 years of service as the MFHS Librarian.  She thought she was going to receive a simple recognition Monday night at the MFISD Board of Trustees meeting, but learned that Superintendent Dr. Chris Allen, MFHS Principal Manny Lunoff, and the MFISD Board had a bigger surprise for her to honor her work and dedication to the students of Marble Falls.

When Ms. Smith came forward to be recognized, Lunoff and Dr. Allen unveiled a big new sign for the “Joyce Smith Library” at MFHS.

Board President, Rick Edwards, described Smith as a dedicated fixture who inspires students to read.  He told her that he can’t imagine the Library without her; and that she was a big influence on his love of reading.  Smith was quick to point out that she had worked so long in the MFHS Library that she remembered Mr. Edwards when he was her Library Aide in his senior year.

“I’m still happy to ask him to help me shelf books,” teased Smith.  “Better yet, I challenge you and the Board to continue my work to make our Library at the High School a center for 21st century reading and learning.”
